Divide expenses into clear categories

You can separate food, housing, education, health, transport, clothing and extracurricular activities. Adapt the categories to your actual circumstances. This list prepares you for a discussion; it does not determine the amount of maintenance.

Separate regular and occasional expenses

Note which costs arise monthly and which less often. For occasional expenses, indicate the period they cover. Do not enter the same amounts in several categories.

Match amounts to documents

Collect the receipts, invoices, bank-transfer confirmations and other materials you have. For each item, you may note the supporting document. Clearly identify any estimated amount.

Bring previous judgments and settlements

If maintenance has already been established, bring the judgment or settlement you have. Note what has changed since then and which issues you want to discuss.

Do not assess the case solely from a table

The statement is a consultation aid. The documents required and the significance of individual items depend on the circumstances of the particular case.

This practical guide helps you prepare for a consultation. It does not replace an assessment of your individual case.
